KYS VS MCKK: A mark for the new generation
By Muhammad Darwisy
“One’s biggest regret would be to underestimate the strength of a team that wouldn’t take a loss no matter the cost.“
KYS and MCKK has had a long and strong friendship, bonding over various aspects, especially rugby. As a common interest that both institutions share, a rugby match is held annually and has quickly become a fan favourite event, leaving all spectators on the edge of their seats.
This match was put on hold during the three year long pandemic, but has finally made a comeback earlier this year. With a new generation of players on the field, the game was set to knock everyone’s expectations out of the park.
But before we get into that, let’s take a look at the lineup.

Recipe to Success
MCKK All Blacks weren’t just any random team under the sun. They have been a major competitor of the KYS Rammers, holding the title of champions of the annual match for the past several years.
But both teams knew not to underestimate one another.
Put in a couple hundred tackles, agonizing fitness, unspeakable pains and a series of emotional roller coasters, and you have yourselves a team that is hungry to take back the trophy.
Both teams are desperate to call the trophy theirs, but it all depends on what goes down on the pitch.
Make it or Break it
Game day was here and all players were laser focused. Nothing was stopping them from losing sight of the goal.
The match started off with the under 13 category, and the players adjourned to the field, taking their places. The match went on for 50 minutes, with a 10 minute break in between.
The under 13 players gave it their all, exerting every ounce of strength they had within them to make a name for themselves as the youngest players competing.
Alas, the final whistle blew, and the MCKK All Blacks emerged as the winners of the under 13 category.
The second match was between the under 14 teams, and the crowd erupted, cheering with all their might to support the teams.
The players entered the field with their heads held high, ready for the ultimate face off. They gave their all in every kick, tackle and conversion, hoping to make their dream a reality.
But their fate aligned with the under 13 category, and the MCKK All Blacks once again takes home the gold medal in the under 14 category.
Will history repeat itself?
Hope for the KYS Rammers were at an all time low, considering the two consecutive losses from the previous matches. Regardless of that, the under 16 KYS Rammers still marched into the field, with a spirit that made them feel undefeatable.
The whistle blew and the first half of the under 16 match began. The intensity of the game impacted the crowd heavily, as all eyes were glued to the game.
Each time a team grabbed the ball, the opposing team would work twice as harder to take it back. Both teams were equally as fast, strong and quick-thinking.
Be that as it may, MCKK still dominated the first half of the game, with a score of 5-12.
For the crest on your chest
The confidence and spirit the KYS Rammers had dwindled, but it was still alive, and the boys weren’t going to let it die.
During the halftime break, the KYS Rammers gathered and revisited their game plan. They weren’t going to allow themselves to be upset, as they knew in their minds that as long as they still had time, there would always be hope.
Together, the players got back on to the pitch, and started the second half of the game.
Within several moments, the KYS Rammers were able to shuffle the deck, and direct the game in their favour. The score was now 17-17, bringing the game on level terms.
Time was ticking, and all eyes were on Kamil Luqman, team captain of the under 16 KYS Rammers, who was preparing to deliver the final conversion, a conversion that would determine their mark on history.
At just the right angle, the ball accurately struck and the conversion was delivered directly over the goal.
And just like that, history was made.
