All the world’s a stage: A Shakespeare Night
By Nur Sorfeena Basirah binti Mohd Hairul Shah
“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.”
On 28th November 2025, these timeless words by William Shakespeare came to life at Kolej Yayasan Saad during Drama Night 2025, organised by the English Language Society (ELASO). With the theme “Shakespeare Reimagined,” the event transformed familiar tales into powerful stage performances.
The evening began with the entrance of Rahman, Razak, and Hussein Houses, each waving their house flags proudly as they filled the hall. Excitement blended with nervous anticipation as participants prepared themselves for the performances ahead. The opening speeches by the ELASO project managers, Aneesa binti Ainul Khairul Ezral and Nur Nadhirah Sofia binti Mohd Farid, reflected the dedication, teamwork, and perseverance that brought Drama Night 2025 to life.
As the lights dimmed, silence fell and the stage was set.

Stories Reimagined on Stage
Each house brought a distinct interpretation of Shakespeare’s works to life. Rahman House presented Macbeth, powerfully portraying ambition and the corrupting nature of power. Hussein House staged Hamlet, exploring themes of grief, inner conflict, and emotional struggle. Razak House reimagined Romeo and Juliet, emphasising the fragile beauty of love and sacrifice.

Behind every performance were weeks of rehearsals, late nights, and moments of uncertainty. Yet, once the drama unfolded on stage, those doubts disappeared, replaced by confidence and growth.
As a narrator, I watched my friends transform into their characters with remarkable courage. Their performances demonstrated how self-belief and teamwork can turn fear into strength and hesitation into confidence.
As the Applause Faded
When the final performance came to an end, emotions lingered in the hall as the results were announced. Hussein House emerged as the champion, followed by Rahman House in second place and Razak House in third.

A Night to Be Remembered
Drama Night 2025 was more than a competition; it was a celebration of storytelling and courage. We stepped into Shakespeare’s world and left with memories that will last a lifetime. As the curtain closed, we carried with us our own happily ever after.
