From the 1st to the 3rd of November 2019, fifteen Kolej Yayasan Saad students participated in the Kuala Lumpur Engineering Science Fair (KLESF) that was held at the Mines Exhibition Centre. At the same time, two other students participated in the Penang International Science Fair (PISF) that was held at the Spice Setia Centre. Both fairs were international level and had participants from countries such as Indonesia and Singapore.

The KLESF

At 9.00 a.m., the KLESF judging began. This part of the competition was extremely crucial as there were only two judges and they would be judging only the projects on that day. We were determined to prove ourselves to the judges as the we had many contenders from 280 secondary and 170 primary schools. Fortunately, we already anticipated the judges’ overwhelming questions and managed to answer them with ease. The next day, we arrived at the exhibition to get the results of the competition. Luckily for us, one team consisting of Ken Alroy, Akif Sulaiman and Razman Furqanul managed to win the Top 40 merit certificate with their “Smart Mirror” project.

The PISF

Meanwhile, participants of the PISF faced a different situation altogether. Only 10 schools were selected for the finals from each category, so they had to prove themselves as the best team. Judging began at 11.00 a.m. and the participants had to do their utmost best in attracting the public to their project, “Mad Science” as 60% of the overall score was determined by public votes. The next day, they continued promoting their product until the closing ceremony at 3.00 p.m. The participants’ hearts were pounding as the winners for their category were being announced. Fortunately, they managed to win a silver award in the Visual Programming Category, in which they also received a prize of RM300.
