“Cahaya Ramadhan berlalu pergi,

Menyambut tibanya Aidilfitri;

Luhur hati ikhlas kemaafan,

Semoga kesalahan dapat dimaafi”

Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a joyous celebration that signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadhan — 30 days of absolute purity and abstinence. Usually, this festive season comes with the smell of mouth-watering Malay cuisine wafting in the air, the sound of exuberant laughter sounding the streets and households, and the gorgeous designs of baju kurungs, baju melayus, baju kebayas and kaftans galore. However, Raya, in times of Covid-19, has brought about a new sort of change to the festivities we all know and love. Let us go ahead and take a look into the celebrations of batch Invicxus as they cope with the MCO-related restrictions cast upon them during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Although Raya was spent indoors this year, the festive spirit in me never died. To be honest, I did not prepare much for this year’s Raya. Of course, like most of my friends and social media mutuals, I got my baju raya online but unfortunately, it was put “on hold” at the post office. Nevertheless, my Day 1 outfit turned out great as I wore my mum’s top with my dad’s old baju melayu pants. And dont get me started on the food — my mum never disappoints! Another good eid for me, اَلْحَمْدُلِلّهِ‎.

I feel utterly blessed to be able to spend time with my family members this Raya season, especially considering the fact that many others do not have the same opportunity as we do. Despite the restrictions we face, people like those in Palestine don’t even have the ability to ‘beraya’ in peace with their family members due to the conflict they are currently facing. And for that, I pray for a future of peace and harmony for all Muslims regardless of nationality.

Although most of the students had to celebrate Raya in the confines of their own homes, they still managed to reach out to their loved ones by using online applications such as Zoom, Google Meet and Skype. Despite their initial sadness on not being able to return to their hometowns or rather, to “balik kampung”, many have moved past that by making the most out of the “stay-at-home” order. By cherishing their parents and bonding with their siblings, they are hence able to keep the spirit of Hari Raya Aidilfitri alive.

Furthermore, many have taken the chance to have mini photoshoots at their own homes, fashioning traditional clothing with hints of modernity seeping through; girls garnished with jewelry and accessories that further enhance their elegance and allure; boys radiating might and vigour with their confident poses. Raya for some members of Invicxus, on the other hand, were not found in the comforts of their own homes. Rather, they spent the festive season together in KYS, staying back to study for their IGCSE exams as well as to avoid the possibility of getting exposed to the Covid-19 virus. Through thorough planning and proper communication with one another, they managed to have many enjoyable activities throughout Raya with the activities on the first day of Raya being managed by Qistina Afiqah and the second by Hasya Mahadzir.

On the night of Raya, the students enjoyed a “pelita” session and had a blast, jamming to Raya tunes as they chatted the night away under the starry skies, revelling in each other’s company and basking in the light of the fireworks above. The second day of Raya, for them, was full of excitement as they played fun games such as the “Most Likely To” game, “Mafia” and “Guess the Kuih Raya”. Given the opportunity to dress up for the two days of celebration, they also took pictures with each other in their wonderful get-ups — unique as they had KYS’s beautiful exteriors and interiors as their backdrops.

The Raya celebration for Invicxus this year has truly been a one-of-a-kind experience for many of our members. Hopefully, we’ll be able to create more memories before we depart from our cherished abode. On behalf of Invicxus, Selamat Hari Raya, everyone!
