KYSER KOPI SERIES: Achieving #GreatHeights In The Era Of Disruption

KYSER Kopi Series #1 was held at Liberal Latte, Bukit Damansara on 26th September 2019. Invited speakers were Hazman Hilmi, CEO of by Malaysia Airlines, Siti Kamariah Ahmad Subki, CEO Institut Wanita Berdaya Selangor and Mohd Irwan Mustafa, Head of Private Investment and Special Projects, PNB. This session was moderated by Azeem Abu Bakar, President of KYSER.

Our special guest was Tan Sri Halim Saad, the Founder of Kolej Yayasan Saad (KYS). Members of the KYS Board of Governors (BoG), Dr. Azizan Mohd Noor, Dr. Muhammad Ikmal Mohd Said, Mr. Ahmad Fahmy also graced the event with their presence. 

The event was held to give KYSER an understanding of what Great Heights truly means which encompass not only individual achievements but rather a shared vision to create a positive impact to the society, together. The lyric of the school song reads “Together, We Attain Great Heights”. It has always been about achieving something TOGETHER.

During the discussion, Irwan was highlighting where disruptions related to data availability for decision making in his industry, investment banking is happening. Unlike before, data for decision making is now easily extracted for analysis and this making his work so much easier. Irwan pointed out the three most important values in building a career are humility, integrity and competency. 

Hazman talked about his experience in Amal by Malaysia Airlines where he was in charge of pilgrims experience. He saw the whole process becoming mobile focused at the height of digitalization in the recent years. He encouraged the crowd to stay ahead of competition to and stay relevant in the market to ensure we are not left behind in the era of disruption. Hazman also emphasised that the more we give, the more we get back. 

Siti Kamariah, a former United Nations (UN) staff talked about his experience in New York where she was an advisor for a humanitarian project and how special task have opened her eyes to see the reality poverty in certain countries. She believes that attaining #GreatHeights goes beyond individual interest and that it is about making an impact on others.

Towards the end of the session, Tan Sri Halim was kind enough to share his vast experience with the members of the floor and answering questions raised. He believes, in order to compete in the disruptive world now we need to understand how the value chain of specific industry works in order to find opportunities. 
“To stay competitive, we have no choice but to move up the value chain, there is no shortcut. You just have to do it”. He also emphasised on hardwork and having a forward thinking mindset, finding new and better ways to do things. The Founder of KYS finally calls for KYSERs to always be united and help each other to attain #GreatHeights.

We took the opportunity to align ourselves towards a vision for KYSER and clearly define what we are set out to do that night by having an open discussion. 

Most importantly, for the first time ever, KYSER, Tan Sri Halim and the BoG managed to envisage what the future holds and how KYSER can do its part it shaping it, over a fine evening of kopi
