A memorable performance by the KYS Orchestra together with famous artists which ignited the night

The Melaka Musical Extravaganza concert was held at Dataran Majlis Bandaraya Melaka Bersejarah (MBMB) in conjunction with its 16th anniversary celebration on the 14th of April 2019. This concert will forever be engraved in the hearts and minds of the 23 KYS Orchestra members who performed there. Famous artists such as Datuk Ramli Sarip, Misha Omar, Hael Husaini, Winnie K and many more were featured in this concert. The experience we gained through this performance was priceless. Performing in front of a huge audience with famous Malaysian artists such as Faizal Uzair (Lok U) was definitely a night to remember for all of us.

Prior to this inaugural day, we practiced in several venues to make this a success. Our first rehearsal was on the 9th of April at Drum Asia Jamming Studio, Kuala Lumpur. We arrived in Kuala Lumpur at around 11.00 a.m. and checked in at Cititel Hotel, Mid Valley. After freshening up, we had our rehearsal from 1.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. To be frank, all of us were completely drained. However, on the bright side, we were promised a trip to Mid Valley the next morning which lightened us up. On the next morning, we went to Mid Valley as promised which thrilled us, then we headed back to Kolej Yayasan Saad soon after.

We also had a couple of rehearsals at Dataran Majlis Bandaraya Melaka Bersejarah (MBMB) before the big day. The rehearsals often finished late that it became a norm for us to arrive back at Kolej Yayasan Saad around midnight. We put in a lot of effort for this performance as we know that with great effort, it will surely result in an outstanding performance.

Intensified rehearsals

Time passed by and the awaited day finally arrived. We departed from Kolej Yayasan Saad at 4.30 p.m. and arrived at Dataran MBMB at 4.45 p.m. When we arrived, we were served with a variety of kuih prepared by MBMB to boost our energy for the afternoon. We unpacked and tuned our instruments before going up on stage for a light rehearsal which ended at 6.00 p.m. Soon after, we got ready with the rest of the performers for the long night ahead. Prayers were recited, instruments were tuned and we were seated on stage ready to give our best performance. The seats that were once empty in front of the stage were filled with thousands of people. It was scary for most of us since there were at least 5000 pairs of eyes glued on us.

At 8.45 p.m., the guests of honour had a grand entrance where they were welcomed by dancers from Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negeri Melaka. After they were seated, the performance began with an opening act by the ever so graceful dancers who were donned in beautiful outfits as well as singers who sung their hearts out. After a few songs, we performed together with them in perfect harmony for the Melaka Bandaraya Warisan Dunia song and many more with various artists. Some of the songs that we performed were Anbe sung by Sasi the Don, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You and Wo De Ge Sheng Li sung by Winnie K, Cinta Adam dan Hawa and Sampai Bila sung by Misha Omar, Hajat sung by Hael Husaini as well as Teratai and Kamelia sung by Datuk Ramli Sarip. It was a fun experience to perform together with these amazing artists and we had our moment to shine by playing a medley of songs from the classic Disney movie, Aladdin. The concert ended with a song called Terancang which was sung by all the artists who performed that night.

After the concert, we had an opportunity to take pictures with some artists such as Winnie K, Sasi the Don and Misha Omar. The supper prepared by MBMB was delectable. We arrived at Kolej Yayasan Saad around 2.00 a.m. and got some rest soon after. We were glad to be given this golden opportunity as it was a one-time experience that we will forever cherish.
